NCORP Access Is Highlighted in NCI Annual Budget Plan

Posted: October 10, 2019

The NCI Annual Plan & Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 released in September featured a cancer patient who joined a clinical trial close to home through the NCORP.

“NCORP offered everything I needed here in my backyard,” said Jerome, a prostate cancer survivor, in a short article in the section on strengthening the cancer research enterprise. Jerome was able to join a phase 3 NCI-supported clinical trial offered locally through LSU Health New Orleans’s Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center NCORP community site.

NCI supports NCORP to bring the latest scientific advances to community settings where the majority of patients with cancer are treated. More than 1,000 community sites, local hospitals, physician practices, and other organizations participate in the program.

The annual budget plan outlines NCI’s best professional judgment on the funding required to make additional progress against cancer. Other sections included: progress against cancer, envisioning the future, immune system and cancer, artificial intelligence and implementation science.
